Sunrise Family Session on a Wyoming Beach

If you love dancing on the beach, mini doughnuts, and the warmth of the sun as it rises, you might like a sunrise family session at Buffalo Bill Reservoir.

Our journey began early as we made our way to the reservoir. Once I met the McNair’s at a gas station in Cody, we were on our way to the beach I had picked out for their session. In the winter, when the reservoir is at its lowest, there are beaches filled with sand and rock that are usually hidden when the water level is higher.

I specifically wanted to show case Rattlesnake and Cedar Mountain that are west of Cody. I also expected their to be some fun ice formations at the edge of the “water” that the sun might illuminate in an interesting way.

As you can see, we didn’t waste a moment with stiff, awkward photos. Everyone was moving, dancing, and loving on each other. The dynamic between each member of this family was so comfortable and unique and I was happy to represent their energy and connection with these fluid and natural poses.
