5 Reasons Winter Shoots are the BEST!
Winters can be tough, and let’s face it, winter is definitely a long season up here. For some, winter might be the season for hibernating and waiting for our 4 months of warm to come back. For others, it might be the time to start all of your favorite recreational activities.
Whether you are a hibernator or Jack Frost, everyone needs to take advantage of the gorgeous portraits you can get in the winter. Here are 3 of my favorite things about winter portraits.
Side note: This blog started out with 3 reasons and just kept growing as I was writing it. I really enjoy winter shoots!
Layers=Lots of Cute Outfits
It can be a little more challenging to get to every location that is available to us in the summer, but the outfits make up for it every time. Winter portraits allow you to layer up and get lots of variety in your outfits. An outfit change is as simple as putting on a layer or taking one off.
I focus on finding diverse areas to photograph in so a “change in scenery” can be as simple as turning 90 degrees or walking a few feet down the river.
Snow is Like Nature’s Bob Ross
Snow is nature’s finishing touches on a landscape. Fallen snow creates highlights on every ridge, high point, or texture available. The white that contrasts the landscape’s otherwise earthy tones create dynamic images you can only get in the winter.
Cute and Cuddly Poses
It is in every organisms instincts to get cuddly in the cold. Whether you are booking a couples session or a family session, winter images allow the poses to really get fun and interactive.
If you aren’t super into the posed pictures, let’s head to the slopes! Grab your snow shoes, cross country skis, or your sleds and let’s get images that really show the playfulness of you and your significant other and/or children.
VERRY Fuzzy Animals!
If you are looking to include a furry friend, winter is the time to do it. All of our equine, bovine, canine, and feline friends are always nice and fluffy in the winter.
Christmas Cards of Course
Cute pictures that capture your families true identity are a must have for Christmas Cards.
This year was the first year I ordered Christmas cards to send out. It is so exciting to pick out the images you think represent you, your family, your year, and to get to share your Christmas wishes with your friends and family!
If you love the idea of cute and cuddly pictures with your kids, fun and adventurous images with your boyfriend, or an all inclusive gallery with your furry friends, make sure to contact me with your idea! Let’s get together and create fantastic winter wonderland images!
